Keeping your vagina clean and healthy

The vagina is designed to keep itself clean with the help of natural secretions (discharge). Find out how to help your vagina keep clean and healthy, and why you don't need douches or vaginal wipes.

The vagina is a tube of muscle inside a woman's body that runs from the cervix (the opening of the womb) to the vaginal opening.

The external sex organs, which are called the vulva, surround the vaginal opening. Looking after your everyday health can help keep your vagina in good shape, says Dr Suzy Elneil, consultant in urogynaecology at University College Hospital, London, and spokesperson for Wellbeing of Women. "Generally, good vaginal health is maintained by making sure you're in good general health," she explains. "This includes a healthy diet and exercise. "Normal exercise helps maintain good vaginal function, as walking and running helps the pelvic floor to tone up and ensure good general health."

Womb cleansing ceremony

What is womb cleansing ceremony?
It is the guided meditation/shamanic journey, which guided You to go deep with Your breath and to connect with Your womb. By listening to Your own breath and the channeling messages from moment to moment allows You to abandon the outside world and reconnect with Your body. Very often, women senses the similar sensation of trance statethrough such deep guided meditation. Although, this sensation happens, when You surrender to the moment and open to receive the new information, and allow the purification to enter through the vibration of sounds, chants, words, which allows You to travel back BUT NOT TO UNDO THE PAST, rather finding the strength to accept what has happened and allow the healing, the light to energetically cleanse the sexual abuse childhood blueprint, birth trauma, as well as letting go the unwanted sexual energy inside the womb.

In an urban society, a lot of women are experiencing emotional swing without knowing what causes such dis-ease. After the session of womb tree meditation, women felt tremendous different in their bodies. They feel much love and gratitude toward being a woman. They are able to FORGIVE those who have hurt them, forgive the situation, the past that causes the suffering, and most of all they are able to forgive themselves and move on.

What is Trance state?
Trance state is a natural state of consciousness or awareness other than normal waking consciousness. Trance states may occur involuntarily and unbidden.

The term trance may be associated with hypnosis, meditation, magic, flow, and prayer. It may also be related to the earlier generic term, altered states of consciousness

Do You need to take anything to be able to enter such state?

No, You don’t need to take any kind of substance to be able to step into such state. The moment You make a decision to go deep inside Your physical body and spiritual body, You can enter into this realm, and with the support of the guided meditation, sounds, chants.

Who can participate in this type of meditation?

I’m offering the womb cleansing ceremony for all female. It can be practiced in a group/circle or private session. I offer a womb blessing for all states of pregnancy. Womb healing for birth trauma and sexual abuse/violence.

When You make the step toward such deep healing, it is not only purifying the womb, but all aspects in Your life. Everything is connected. Many times, women experience unhealthy relationship ended after the work with the womb. As well as the change in their work space and relationship with people in their lives.

When You awaken the power within, the dis-ease, dis-balance in Your life needs to fall apart in order to find it way back again in harmony.

Cleaning the womb

In South Africa problems with current cervical screening uptake, including low coverage and loss of screened women to follow-up, have been identified.

This paper presents the findings of an anthropological study of rural Black women's perceptions and understandings of cervical symptomatology, screening and cancer conducted among three different language groups in South Africa.

The data collected indicate that women were screened when presenting with symptoms of reproductive tract infection, with the result that for many the smear came to be associated with the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). In some cases the smear was said itself to "clean" the womb.

The results were often interpreted by women as signifying womb "dirtiness" and confirming the presence of symptomatic reproductive disease for which they had initially presented to the biomedical facility. Several barriers to screening were identified including fear of vaginal exposure, expectation of pain, being asymptomatic, and gender of the practitioner. In addition women perceived womb cancer to be invariably terminal, knowledge which was constructed from personal and community experience of the illness.

The illness was closely associated with (usually female) "promiscuity". The authors discuss the implications of the data for healthworkers and health promotion specialists, in particular the association of the smear with STDs, the way in which women are recruited for screening, the perceived terminality of womb cancer, and the processes by which local knowledge about illness is constructed.

The findings demonstrate the importance of medical anthropology in contributing towards the provision of effective and locally appropriate healthcare

Do you need to "clean your womb" after taking the abortion pill?

One of the most frequently asked questions we get on social media concerns the need to "clean" oneself after an abortion, i.e, empty the contents of your uterus of the products of conception. The answer to this question is simple: no, you don't need to do anything to evacuate the remains.

Uteruses are basically self-cleaning ovens — that's what vaginal discharge and menstruation are for. When you take abortion pills, the bleeding and cramping are the means by which the fetal tissue leaves your body. There's no other intervention necessary. That being said, it's important to understand a few things.

The first is how abortion pills work. If you opt for the mifepristone and misoprostol combination, which is 95-98% effective to 12 weeks, the mifepristone, which you take first, will block the flow of progesterone to the fetus.

Progesterone is the hormone that promotes fetal growth and maintains the pregnancy and makes your uterus more receptive to the next pill you'll take, misoprostol, also called cytotec. Misoprostol softens your cervix and causes your uterus to contract, causing cramps, as well as the expulsion of the fetal tissues in the form of bleeding and clots.

If you take misoprostol on its own, it's less effective than the mifepristone/misoprostol combo, but it still works, when used correctly, 80-85% of the time, up until 12 weeks of pregnancy. You don't need to take antibiotics with abortion pills, because the likelihood of infection is so remote.

You should, however, avoid putting anything into the vulva until heavy bleeding stops, in order to really cut back on the likelihood of infection. Another thing to understand is the fact that bleeding after taking abortion pills varies.

On average, people bleed for 9-14 days following a self-managed abortion. Some people bleed/pass clots for as long as 4 weeks, and for other people, the bleeding decreases dramatically or stops entirely after it's initially intense for a few days. You could also have bleeding that resembles your period for several weeks. T

hink about it as though it were menstruation - some people bleed for 3 days, other for 6. It's all normal, and it will stop on its own. Infection is super rare with abortion pills, but you should be aware of the signs of complications and have a plan that you can put into practice in case it happens.

(This is why it's a good idea to notify someone you trust that you're doing a self-managed abortion.) Complications indicating infection include severe bleeding (more than 2 or 3 pads used every hour for more than 2 or 3 consecutive hours), severe abdominal pain that isn’t relieved with painkillers or continues for 2-3 days after taking the pills, a fever over 39º or 38º (102 or 100.4) for more than 24 hours, and abnormal vaginal discharge. If you do suspect that something is wrong, you should seek medical care immediately.

These are complications that come with a natural miscarriage, so doctors in a hospital will be able to treat them without knowing that you took abortion pills.

You absolutely must make sure that your medical abortion was successful. Incomplete abortion can result in an infection, and that will likely require a health care professional to remove the fetal remains.

As mentioned above, medical abortion has very high success rates, but it's still important to verify that it worked.

One indication of a successful abortion is the disappearance of pregnancy symptoms. If you have access to an ultrasound, you can get one to confirm the success of the abortion, or you can take a pregnancy test between 3-4 weeks afterwards.

You do not need to do anything to clean out your uterus after your medical abortion (or a surgical abortion, for that matter).

Keep in mind how abortion pills work, how long bleeding can last, the symptoms of infection, and how to tell if your abortion was successful. Remember that self-managed abortion is highly effective and safe. To find out more, including how to get abortion pills, check out our Frequently Asked Questions.

Why womb cleaning is not necessary

The womb is capable of cleaning itself during normal menses, when it naturally sheds the lining because a fertilized egg has not implanted in the womb.

Any tissue left behind after a surgical abortion is incapable of “cleaning itself” ie, removing itself. It stays in the womb and is exceeding dangerous.

Pain, infection, infertility, hemorrhaging, hysterectomy and death are the after effects of incomplete removal of uterine lining, or placenta, or unborn child.

There is no “quick and easy” abortion. They are bloody, painful, and fraught with complications. Some complications show up right away, some show up later.

Do yourself and your baby a big favor and carry it to term. There is plenty of help, support, teaching, free medical, and products available to you for free.

Cleansing the womb

Generally the womb will cleanse itself after a miscarriage or medical abortion, and a D&C should clean it out.

However, this isn’t invariably the case. Sometimes it won’t happen, for whatever reason.

Sometimes there are remains of foetal tissue, or placenta, and if you are bleeding, have pelvic pain or tenderness, or a fever, then go see a doctor.

It is necessary to see a doctor due to the danger of sepsis, which is a life-threatening condition.

Function of the womb

The reproductive function of the uterus is to accept a fertilized ovum which passes through the utero-tubal junction from the fallopian tube.

The fertilized ovum divides to become a blastocyst, which implants into the endometrium, and derives nourishment from blood vessels which develop exclusively for this purpose.

The fertilized ovum becomes an embryo, attaches to a wall of the uterus, creates a placenta, and develops into a fetus (gestates) until childbirth.

Due to anatomical barriers such as the pelvis, the uterus is pushed partially into the abdomen due to its expansion during pregnancy.

Even during pregnancy the mass of a human uterus amounts to only about a kilogram (2.2 pounds). The uterus also plays a role in sexual response, by directing blood flow to the pelvis and ovaries, and to the external genitals, including the vagina, labia, and clitoris.

Position of the womb

The uterus is in the middle of the pelvic cavity in frontal plane (due to ligamentum latum uteri). The fundus does not surpass the linea terminalis, while the vaginal part of the cervix does not extend below interspinal line.

The uterus is mobile and moves posteriorly under the pressure of a full bladder, or anteriorly under the pressure of a full rectum. If both are full, it moves upwards. Increased intra-abdominal pressure pushes it downwards.

The mobility is conferred to it by musculo-fibrous apparatus that consists of suspensory and sustentacular part.

Under normal circumstances the suspensory part keeps the uterus in anteflexion and anteversion (in 90% of women) and keeps it "floating" in the pelvis. The meaning of these terms are described below:

Structure of the womb

The uterus is located within the pelvic region immediately behind and almost overlying the bladder, and in front of the sigmoid colon.

The human uterus is pear-shaped and about 7.6 cm (3.0 in) long, 4.5 cm (1.8 in) broad (side to side), and 3.0 cm (1.2 in) thick.

A typical adult uterus weighs about 60 grams. The uterus can be divided anatomically into four regions: the fundus – the uppermost rounded portion of the uterus, the corpus (body), the cervix, and the cervical canal.

The cervix protrudes into the vagina. The uterus is held in position within the pelvis by ligaments, which are called endopelvic fascia.

These ligaments include the pubocervical ligaments, transverse cervical ligaments or cardinal ligaments, and the uterosacral ligaments. It is covered by a sheet-like fold of peritoneum, the broad ligament.

What is the womb

The uterus (from Latin "uterus", plural uteri) or womb is a major female hormone-responsive secondary sex organ of the reproductive system in humans and most other mammals. In the human, the lower end of the uterus, the cervix, opens into the vagina, while the upper end, the fundus, is connected to the fallopian tubes.

It is within the uterus that the fetus develops during gestation. In the human embryo, the uterus develops from the paramesonephric ducts which fuse into the single organ known as a simplex uterus. The uterus has different forms in many other animals and in some it exists as two separate uteri known as a duplex uterus.

In English, the term uterus is used consistently within the medical and related professions, while the Germanic-derived term womb is also commonly used in everyday contexts.

Why Should You Have a Womb Cleaning?

After discussing various womb cleaning home remedies, let’s discuss why you should have womb cleaning. In certain cases, the uterine lining may not be removed entirely during every cycle.

Some of the symptoms of incomplete removal of uterine lining are bleeding for less than 4 days in each cycle, longer cycles than normal, entire absence of menstruation, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, cramping, PMS, passing blood clots, or passing brown or dark colored blood during menses.

Old uterine lining and blood may be retained if your uterus does not cleanse itself completely at each cycle. This may be harmful to the embryo.

The reasons for incomplete emptying of uterus are as follows:
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Misplaced uterus
  • Decreased blood circulation
  • Excessive hormones

Nettle Leaves for womb cleansing

Nettle leaves have large quantities of chlorophyll along with vitamins C, D, A and K, potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorus and sulphur. It can be prepared as a tea and is also available as a capsule. They increase fertility and remove toxins from the liver and kidneys, hence, making it one of the great womb cleaning home remedies.

The herb is listed as unsafe for ingestion during pregnancy by the Natural Medicines Database. However, other sources encourage its use before conceiving and during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy. You should consult with your physician before taking nettle leaves during pregnancy.

Herbs for womb cleansing

Over the last couple of years, it has become quite popular to go for cleaning. A cleaning is actually available for everything. It is available to help in weight loss, to detox your liver, to clean your colon or to help in boosting your metabolism. Currently, a new type of cleaning is gaining popularity-the womb cleansing. This type of cleansing is helpful if you are preparing to conceive or just want to become healthier.

Many herbs may be utilized to cleanse and stimulate your uterus and improve its tone. They also help in relieving menopausal or menstrual symptoms. However, certain herbs that help in boosting health of uterus should be avoided during pregnancy as they may stimulate uterine contractions.

While many herbal remedies have been used safely for a long time; however, you should still consult a physician before taking any herbs that support uterus, especially if you suffer from a medical illness, are trying to conceive or take certain medicines.

Ginger decreases inflammation while increasing blood flow and oxygen supply to the uterus. It is an excellent detoxifier for the whole body because it boosts circulation, supports the functioning of liver and promotes sweating. It can be safely taken during pregnancy. It is a proven remedy for morning sickness during pregnancy.

Marigold is one of the good herbs that can be used for cleansing of the uterus. It is especially useful to support the health of a hardened uterus as it does not irritate the mucous membranes. Drinking marigold in the form of tea can help in the regulation of menstrual bleeding and relieve cramps. However, it should be avoided during pregnancy.

Motherwort is another one of womb cleaning home remedies. It is utilized in Chinese medicine traditionally to treat menstrual and menopausal symptoms. Leonurine is the uterus stimulating or uterotonic component present in the leaves of motherwort. You should not take it during pregnancy as it causes contractions of the uterus.

Red raspberry has been used as a tonic to tone and regulate muscles of uterus. It can help in returning your uterus to its original size and tone and decrease bleeding and swelling after delivery. It contains ferulic acid that may ease menstrual flow by causing the stimulation of muscles supporting the uterus. It also reduces excessive bleeding during menstruation.

In the past, this herb was utilized during pregnancy; however, it is no longer advised as it may stimulate uterine contractions. Raspberry is also a rich source of nutrients that provide support to the reproductive system and other body systems as well. The nutrients present in raspberry are tannins, flavonoids, alpha-carotenes, beta-carotenes, calcium, alkaloids, iron, leutin, phosphorus, selenium, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, zinc, vitamin E, vitamin C and B vitamins.

Nettle leaves have large quantities of chlorophyll along with vitamins C, D, A and K, potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorus and sulphur. It can be prepared as a tea and is also available as a capsule. Fertility Cleansing

The time while you are preparing for conception is one of the most important times to create a healthy body in preparation for pregnancy. It is also the best time to do a fertility cleanse.

Fertility cleansing is a way to support the body in preparation for conception by cleansing the uterus and liver. A fertility cleanse encourages the liver to cleanse the body of toxins and excess hormones. It also supports the uterus to cleanse itself of old stagnant blood and increases circulation to the uterus while tonifying the uterine tissues.

Note: Do not cleanse during pregnancy or breastfeeding. You do not want to expose your baby to your body’s toxins as they circulate in your blood on the way out. Why Fertility Cleanse?

Over the years the body can accumulate toxins from chemicals in the air, earth, and water and from substances we consume daily or slather on our skin.

Many of these toxins get stored in the fatt; tissues of the body and can be released quicker through cleansing. Some of these toxins may be left from: Hormonal birth control Cigarette smoke Pesticides Excess hormones Poor diet Alcohol Ideally, we would like our bodies to be as healthy as possible during pregnancy; through cleansing we are able to support the body in its natural ability to rid itself of these substances.

While cleansing is beneficial, not just any cleanse is going to be beneficial for fertility. A fertility cleanse is specific to the reproductive system and assists the body in eliminating the additional burden of substances not good for fertility.

A fertility cleanse focuses on three major areas that can help the body to prepare for conception: liver health, uterine health and increasing circulation to the uterus. Liver Health The liver helps to filter toxins from the body including excess hormones.

If there is an overabundance of estrogen, it is the liver’s job to remove it from the system. Sometimes, due to poor diet, lifestyle or general health (chronic medication or alcohol are two examples), the liver may need some stimulation and support to get rid of these substances. Linda Page, Ph.D., Traditional Naturopath, hypothesizes that every American “has some degree of liver malfunction” as a result of the standard American diet which is often high in empty calories, processed foods, fat, refined sugar, grains and alcohol.

Other contributing factors to poor liver function are the unknown amounts of toxins from lifestyle choices, environmental toxins, and body care products. Other cultures may also be impacted similarly in this age of convenience.

By using whole herbs to support the liver you are helping your body to better cope with oxidative stress from our industrial world and the impact it could be having on your reproductive health.

I will cover liver-supportive herbs in brief below, but to give you an example of the benefits of whole herbs, let me share about Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum): Milk Thistle is known as the most beneficial liver herb. It’s benefits have been studied extensively, with mixed, yet promising findings. Animal studies in the German Journal of Medicinal Plant Research, Planta Med., found that Milk Thistle combats oxidative stress and increases glutathione content throughout the digestive tract, including the liver. Glutathione is a key antioxidant, “nature’s master antioxidant and detoxifier”, for the liver.

Researchers at the Department of Gastroenterology, Cisanello Hospital, Pisa, Italy, report evidence from experimental research and clinical studies that glutathione holds promise for those needing to recover from oxidative stress-induced liver damage.

Uterine Health Uterine health is very important for reproductive health. Every cycle, the uterus is supposed to release the lining that was built that month for the embryo to implant. In some cases the uterus is not completely cleansed every cycle, so old stagnant blood remains.

Red raspberry to cleanse the uterus

Red raspberry has long been used as a uterine tonic to regulate and tone uterine muscles according to "The Complete Herbal Guide," by Stacey Chillemi and Michael Chillemi.

It can help return your uterus to its normal tone and reduce swelling and bleeding after giving birth. Its ferulic acid content may ease menstrual flow by stimulating the muscles that support the uterus while also reducing excessive menstrual bleeding.

In the past, raspberry was used during pregnancy, but this is no longer recommended due to the possibility of stimulating contractions, says Chillemis.

Raspberry is rich in nutrients that support the reproductive system as well as other body systems. These include flavonoids, tannins, beta-carotenes, alpha-carotenes, alkaloids, calcium, leutin, iron, manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, selenium, potassium, zinc, B vitamins and vitamins E and C, says Chillemis.

Motherwort to cleanse the uterus

Motherwort, which may help your uterus contract after giving birth, is used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat menopausal and menstrual symptoms, say Maureen Miller Pelletier and Deborah S. Romaine in "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Menopause."

The uterotonic, or uterus stimulating, component in motherwort is called leonurine, which is present in the herb's leaves according to Y.C. Kong, lead author of a study published in the American Journal of Chinese Medicine.

Other studies by H. Nagasawa et al. published in Anticancer Research indicate that motherwort may have an effect against mammary cancer as well.

The studies were done on mice, however, so more research is needed to determine if motherwort is effective for humans suffering this cancer according to "The Clinician's Handbook of Natural Healing," by Gary Null. Avoid motherwort if you're pregnant because of its ability to cause uterine contractions.

Marigold to cleanse the uterus

Marigold is a good cleansing herb that can be used to support uterine health according to "Essential Herbal Wisdom," by Nancy Arrowsmith.

The fact that it has cleansing qualities but does not irritate mucous membranes makes it especially useful for a hardened uterus.

Drinking marigold tea, or combining marigold and chamomile in tea, can help regulate menstrual bleeding and ease cramps. It should be used for a week prior to menstruation for this purpose, Arrowsmith advises. Avoid marigold if you are pregnant.

Herbs to Cleanse the Uterus - Ginger

Many herbs can be used to stimulate and cleanse your uterus, improve its tone and ease menstrual or menopausal symptoms.

However, some herbs that boost uterine health should not be taken when you are pregnant due to risk of stimulating contractions.

While many herbs have a long tradition of safe use, you still need to consult a doctor before utilizing any uterus-supporting herbs, especially if you are trying to get pregnant, have a medical condition or take medications.

Ginger reduces inflammation while increasing oxygen and blood flow to your uterus, say Asa Hershoff and Andrea Rotelli in "Herbal Remedies."

Ginger is actually a good whole-body detoxifier because it supports liver function, boosts circulation and promotes healthy sweating, says Ann Louise Gittleman, author of "The Fat Flush Foods."

It is safe to take during pregnancy and is in fact a proven remedy for nausea in pregnant women according to the National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine.

Womb cleaning pills

Womb Cleaning after having had an abortion or a miscarriage is very important for reproductive health, and to create or maintain a healthy body in preparation for the next pregnancy.
